Highest mileage B58?
Discussion
Whilst driving my 340i back from the New Forest was idly wondering what sort of mileages B58 engines are getting to now, and whether people are seeing any weaknesses?
Mine is only on 21k so still a new engine basically but for a BMW engine the B58 seems to have no significant reliability issues so far (touch wood) - wondering if mileage is starting to show any particular failures now the earliest engines are 7/8 years old.

Oil filters disintegrating on removal with the potential of dropping bits of filter into the engine, injector issues and cracked pistons/bore scoring seem to be the main big issues, at least on the B58s in the 140/240s

In the article it states a possible issue with the fuel injectors seizing open, and causing piston failure. If the piston cracks due to this issue it can score the bore, but you will get some warning before it poo’s itself. It’s still a very small amount of cars that have suffered this failure, and the same engine is fitted across the board on BMW’s. There are some b58’s on big miles with no issues https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t...https://www.babybmw.net/threads/b48-b58-injector-f...
My 2017 340i touring is on 83k with no issues. If it does rear it’s head with rough running or cylinder shut down I’ll just swap the injectors. Simples.

It's just like the N55 and the threat of eccentric shaft failure, or the S55 and crank hub failure, or the N54 and cam ledge wear... The vast, vast majority of the engines will happily plod on with no issues, but those that fail will be highlighted as people generally don't report uneventful goings on with their cars!
Btw, according to the interwebs, you need a special tool to get the injectors out of the head on the B58. Here's a YT of the replacement on a 340i for reference (where one of the subsequent posts says you don't strictly need the tool):

Did yours come with the flux capacitor option? My 2027 340i touring is on 83k with no issues. If it does rear it’s head with rough running or cylinder shut down I’ll just swap the injectors. Simples.
My take on it is that the B58 is proving to be one of the more reliable BMW engines. The disintegrating oil filter seems to be the most common issue.
Compared to the N54, it’s a paragon of reliability given how quickly waste gate rattle reared it’s head on them. A fair few have has JB4’s chucked on and probably driven pretty hard but there don’t seem to be too many horror stories (yet).

Certainly seems to be the feedback so far from what I can see. The injector thing sounds like bad luck for a few people rather than an endemic issue for the engine, and possibly only earlier cars in any event.
I presume the oil filter issue must have been fixed with revised oil filter cartridge designs - I've done one oil change myself and 2 from dealer and haven't experienced any problems (2018 car) thankfully.
Perhaps I shouldn't be surprised but it does seem that higher performance modern engines all mostly seem to have some sort of common issue that can be expensive - the B58 seems to have avoided this issue.

2016 340i Touring Owner here.
On 58k mile's. Only issue's I’ve had are coolant loss (diagnosed to cap seal disintegrating after Indy smoke and pressure test, easy fix with new cap and been fine ever since) and last week i noticed small amount's of white smoke on start-up. Quick check online points to the PCV failure so ordered a £15 replacement kit of eBay and hoping to complete over the weekend (looks like a perishable part that typically lasts 60-80k miles on these engines and easy done as a DIY job at home).
No other issues.
