I'm considering buying a 98 'S' plate 535i. It has 86000 miles and full service history - price £7600. Reliabilty wise is this car a good choice? I've heard reports that the ceramic liners can go, which wouldn't be good - is this a common problem? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

hiya, i used to run a 4.4 98 5 series and it had 136k on it when it died ( lorry ! ) and it was perfect, if i was you i would go for 540 over the 535 any day, even better if you can get a manual , 6 speed box tons of grunt and most come better specced than the 535. if not then try the 530d, you will be surprised. Good luck

Cheers Nige, I've decided to take the plunge and pick it up next week. The previous owner updated it to look like an M5 - even down to the quad exhaust. Hope it goes as well as it looks!
