I've just been told by my local BMW dealer that the 'sport' model of the 330 coupe merely looks different to the ordinary version. I always thought that the suspension was stiffer and the handling improved. Can anyone shed any light on this?

There is a sports suspension pack as standard on the Sport, but you can also get it on the normal 330Ci. The Sport models don't exist on the continent. You just add the bits as extras.

Hey Rob

Zod is correct - I specced the sports suspension on my company 320D but it is standard on the Sport. As are (from memory) 18" wheels, M aero kit, sports seats, anthracite headlining, sports wheel and gearstick, shadowline glass, deleted chrome adn a few other little things. Lots is just decoration but suspension, wheels and seats certainly are not.

Is this the same dealer who told you your throttle lag was normal? Maybe time to shop elsewhere?

PHer Scoobz was our resident bimmer expert but I think he's in the states now. Worth an e-mail perhaps?

Best of Luck

I was told that throttle lag was normal by BMW customer services, Wood BMW in Odiham and Sytner BMW in High Wycombe. The latter two dealers both examined my car and reported that it was completely normal.

In my experience, car salesman for mainstream manufacturers often know very little about the cars they sell. When I was looking for a 330ci I pointed out a carbon roof poking out amongst the cars at a dealer and mentioned the "lovely CSL over there". The salesman looked completely confused by my comment. Out on the test drive, he couldn't even tell me whether it had an LSD or not! I just buy from dealers to get the preperation, warranty and backup.

A very different experience to TVR or Caterham!
