Bmw G30 wobble
Discussion
I’ve got a 2017 G30 520d and it’s developed an annoying wobble / vibration when driving. Feels more in the seats than the steering so thought it would be rear wheels out of balance. The rears have been checked and not out of balance. Could it be the fronts even though the steering wheel doesn’t seem to shake as much as the car seems to. Or could it be a buckled front wheel, a combination or something else?
Vibrations from wheels can be due to balance or FV (force variation) issues.
FV can be caused by many issues, including bent wheels (see above) or due to permanent flat spots (from being left parked for a long time) or simply poor manufacturing.
Other issues that can cause vibrations are binding brake calipers. Can you put your hand on the wheels after a long motorway drive and see if one wheel in unusually warm.
Where do you live?

When I go out later I’ll try putting my hand on the wheels to see if one’s hotter than others. I haven’t noticed any smell of overheating brakes but I’ll try that. Yep - could be a buckled wheel (which can be straightened), same thing happened on my 840i Gran Coupe.
I’ll get the front wheels checked. Possibly related is that one of the fronts does need topping up with air every few weeks but no punctures found. Maybe it is buckled and causing both issues. That many speed bumps, knackered speed bumps and potholes so wouldn’t be a surprise if one was buckled.
Daft question but I assume any tyre place would pick up that it’s buckled when checking the balancing?
Yes it would be fairly obvious when balancing the wheel that it's buckled, you would see the 'kick' when it was spinning on the balancing machine.
My G30 had a vibration just like yours when I purchased it, really noticeable at 70 to 80 mph. Turned out it had 2 buckled wheels the one on the nearside rear being the worst.
Contacted cinch who I purchased it from, they paid to have them repaired and it was vibration free afterwards.
