Hi all

I have a 2018 2 series coupe M Sport which currently has 461 style alloys:

Front 7.5J Wheels with 225/40 R18 tyres
Rear 8J Wheels with 245/35 R18 tyres

Am I able to swap these for these BMW BBS Style 216 wheels:

All 4 corners are - 8J

2 x 225/40 R18 tyres.
2 x 225/45 R18 tyres.

I'd be using the 216 style wheels as winters.

Thanks for any advice!

What the offsets? That’s far more important.

Offsets are very close. So should be fine. But you need to use the right sized tyres.

Use the willtheyfit tyre calculator to see how the three suit.

You need to be within the 2.5% +/- to keep the speedo and diff tolerances in check

Don’t know about the wheels. Re tyres:

2 x 225/40 R18 tyres.
2 x 225/45 R18 tyres.

You have chosen two different profiles. This will change your ride height and your abs and stability control will not work correctly.

It looks like you’re trying to put E8/9 wheels on an F model. I think the offsets are different.

No need to give em a miss; just sort the tyres!

Nigh on all the BMW wheels and their specs (tyres, offsets, weights etc) are here: https://www.auto-treff.com/wcf/index.php?category-...

Just use Google Chrome to translate if necessary...

You need to make sure that the offsets are as close as you can get them, maybe 5-10 less than your current offsets, but NOT more; but the tyres need to be the right size for your car; so go off the tyres you have fitted currently and if unsure; use the tyre calc at: https://www.willtheyfit.com/

I don't have the 216s

They are being sold locally with a decent set of winter tyres.

If I have to replace the tyres they aren't as financially attractive :-)

Ideally you want 245/35s all round for a straight set of wheels I think

Either way; the tyres on offer are of no good...

You can fit 17s to yours IIRC; they may be a better option and then fit new winter tyres to them, unless you've the larger M Sport brakes in which you'll need 18s as a min

It is the M Sport brakes I have so guess safer to stick to the factory wheel & tyre sizes.

Thanks again to everyone!

18s then; go with the front tyre sizes all round, on 18x8 alloys

As I remember, my mates factory stock 320si was 225/40/18 on the fronts and 255/35/18 on the rear. I can’t remember if the actual wheels were wider at the rear though or just the tyres?

Google tells me you’re spot on with tyre sizes. 8” front, rear 8.5” rims.

Not always - sometimes a steel wheel has advantages over an alloy

So maybe two pairs of fronts might be better for a winter setup?

Funny but you are right - They will eventually get slightly banded and go on my track/project car - shod with slicks for a sleeper look when on track (it's a 1972 car so steels will suit it)

Thanks for that! What a great site!

I was wondering just how heavy my 19" Style 442s might be, and yeah, they are stupid heavy.
