Does anyone know whether it's possible to buy BMW wheels for my M3 (04 model)outside the main dealer network?....and hopefully cheaper!!!

I found somewhere selling M3 wheels, they're replica's of course but significantly cheaper. Personally, I didn't like the idea, but if this is what you're after, I'll dig out the details for you.

Alternatively, have you looked on eBay for second hand ones?

I'm just about to go back to BMW about my alloys, the chrome finish on them has worn away in parts, leaving a rather nice white finish.

You'll pick genuine 18" wheels up no problem...... all a question of whether your a driver or a poser

I've heard suggestions that an M3 with the standard 18's handles better than one with the optional 19's.

Is this true and if so, why?

Probably due to the fact that the 19" wheels have less tyre between it and the road, which in turn means the tyre doesn't absorb as much of the roughness out of the road, which tends to make turn/feel a little better, but brings in a harsher/crashier ride and this could cause you to have less control of the car on the limit as their is less progression between grip/no-grip.

The difference is negligible. I've had both and driven on track with both. The CSL and the new CS both come on 19" wheels.
