318 n43 head gasket finished but running rough
Discussion
Thanks for all the help getting to this stage guys, your experience was invaluable.i started the engine first turn and it idles perfect but when I rev the engine it stutters and cuts out when releasing the pedal.. although it sounds like lack of fuel I think it's a vacuum leak somewhere as the brake pedal is rock solid now .I have one of the small 3.5mm vacuum pipes that connects to the underside of the inlet manifold and I might have routed it the wrong way round the manifold (I have it coming out between the bulk head and inlet manifold because I thought I remembered pulling it off somewhere near the vacuum pump at the end of the camshaft (think it's something like that) but I can't see anything to connect to there but I noticed the next day there's a nipple for a pipe on the intake pipe and from memory I think it's on the maf sensor (cars at my son's as it's his). another thing I noticed was the larger vacuum pipe that pushes on the pump at the end of the camshaft doesn't seem to click into place and can fairly easily pull off although it doesn't just fall off. And lastly I have a small electric connector that has a small sensor looking part connected to it and it's just hanging and not fixed to anything.. it's in-between the alternator and inlet manifold and looking at the end of the sensor it seems like just blank plastic..I will be going to my son's Saturday to try and sort this and was hoping the hard brake pedal and revving stutter are both caused by the same issue.i will take a few pictures and post them if I get a reply and the person mentions they need them.. thanks for taking the time to read this and I appreciate any help
Hi everyone,I won't write the same long post again but if anyone can help with the problem I posted on the 9th of February about the head gasket I finished and it's not revving right and the brake pedal is rock solid which maybe points to a vacuum leak but I have posted much clearer info in the previous message.. please someone that has experience with this engine as I'm a n43 virgin 😂
Thanks for your help guys, to I am the reverend, do you mean the large vacuum pipe that pushes on the component bolted to the back of the head that runs off the camshaft? Because that's the one that only seems to hold tight on one side of the connection that has to be squeezed to remove.was dark when I finished the head gasket so couldn't see what was causing the problem.i will be going there to try sorting it this weekend.any ideas what the loose sensor is that I mentioned that is hanging above the alternator.ill send pictures soon but it's a block connector with a small sensor about the size of a maf sensor.the end looks like just blank plastic and I don't remember taking it off . thanks again
