F25 X3 gas spindle struts for boot
Discussion
I have a 2012 f25 X3 which has a hard life.
For probably the last 2 years the boot has creaked when opening and closing electrically, and more recently hasn’t opened as far or has dropped a little once opened.
It appears to have finally given up, so my wife is having to close it by hand (the horror).
I am guessing it’s the gas/spindle struts which have failed. Best price I can find for stabilus (oem) are £560 (£320+250, oddly), at ecp.
Anyone experienced this?
I could take it to it local garage (RBM in hook, who are excellent btw), but I am loathe to spend lots of money if it turns out the issue is something else!
Any other forums recommended to ask this question?
Any way to avoid spending this much money?
Any help welcomed!

It does sound like the gas struts are failing rather than an electrical problem.
I've just ordered some custom uprated boot struts from these guys ( https://www.sgs-engineering.com/gas-struts/re-gass...) for my car. Not an electric boot but one where the original spec seem to fail to open the boot on the button very after a short period. Not fitted them yet but the quality, price and service was amazing.
Worth enquiring to see if your struts can be re-gassed as a first try. Non electric ones are about £25 the pair to re-gas.
