I’m looking at 18” tyres for the summer alloys I’ve bought; looking to go with 235/45s rather than thenOEM size of 225s as I prefer a straighter sidewall and better rim protection, but have always found that one size up gives a better turn in feel too…

Anyhoo…

Tyres in mind are the Conti PremiumContact 6s and Michelin PS4s or PS5s

The Vredestein Ultrac Vorti’s and Falken FK520s are available in the size too and I’ve owned the Vreds before & found them to be superb and the FK510s before too (they were great on my previous F01)

I’ve only run PS4s in 17” size on my previous E39 touring and they were excellent

But the Conti’s have always interested me and I know they get rave reviews

Anyone on here run both the Conti’s and PS4s? What were your thoughts and what would your preference be?

FYI most driving will be towed driving and then a few longer road trips and we’ll bet lucky to do c6-8k miles a year, so tyre wear isn’t an issue TBH

Cheers

Continentals wear down much faster than Michelin. PS5, job done.

My choice would be PS5s but you may also want to consider the Goodyear F1 A6, which can be a little cheaper if you don't manage to pick up the Michelins on offer.

We don’t cover massive miles, so tyre wear isn’t an issue

Have you experience of both the Conti’s and PS5s or are you just going off what others say?

TBH I’m not a fan of the Goodyears; having run them a few times I never found them to be all that; much preferred the Vredesteins etc - they drove better and were great for handling, as good as previous PS4s IMO

I stick to Michelin and Goodyear. The PremiumContact is not a comparable tyre, the SportContact is. To be fair the SportContact 7 gets very good reviews, with the only downside being tyre wear. If that's not an issue then it'd be a good choice.

Haven't seen them in the sizes I'm after but will have a look

To update, I’ve gone with the Goodyear Asym6’s - found them for £160 a corner on MyTyres

Great tyres, neck n neck with the PS5s on the tyrereviews review and a bloody good saving, money wise, over the Michelins…

After reading review after review and looking at -jon’s videos on tyrereviews, I felt that they’ll do perfectly for the car and the one size up with give better rim protection and turn in feel…

Will report back when they land and I get them fitted/fitted to the car once the winters have done their duties

I’ve only ever ran the earlier incarnations (so 2s and 3s I think) and they just didn’t impress me that much…

Will see how these go

I think they’re pretty good; overall I think I preferred the PS4’s on my 130i because I thought they were dryer in the wet. However the GY’s for both cars were loads cheaper so I went with them. The rears worked out to be barely any more than another pair of Kumho’s.

I like Goodyear F1 tyres, work well in the wet and I find they give more steering feedback than Michelin.
