Hi!

Bmw 118d M 2010, N47.

Got a word from a tuner around here who thought my particle filter may getting full, its got a code in his computer:

DDE 00480A DDE. Particle-filter system.

No engine lights etc ever, yet.
I've noticed the boost holding back on a few warm occasions.

What are my choices..?
2nd hand units? New? Etc

1. Diagnose and fix cause of blockage (a lot of mechanics can’t do this and suggest dpf delete)

2. Forced regen or in rare cases, dpf removal and chemical clean.

BMW dpfs do not need replacing or removing permanently.

So, according to this a random tuner got in touch with you to say you have a pending fault code about your DPF, is that actually what happened?

Joking aside give us the full story, as it may well change the correct reply.

You should be able to measure the DPF pressure differential with an app like Bimmerlink.

Downstream pressure should be <50mbar at idle and no more than 200mbar under heavy load.

Bimmerlink can also report % oil ash and soot.

smile Thanx!
Ok theres a company called Boost Tuning here who did an eco-tuning a year ago which was supposed to lower consumption a litte. I don't know if it did, in case it was minor. But it also raised from 143hp to around 170hp & more torque.
After a few months there was a power drop during my summer trip to Croatia, last hot summer. Especially with hot engine & low gear & open throttle. This has occured lately aswell even in cold, especially during longer trips (warm engine).

Boost Tuning did a diagnose, no codes at first (and no engine light ever) but after a while he did get that code.
And c:a 1bar difference before/after the particlefilter at tick-over.

1 bar back pressure at idle is a severe blockage. Lots of short journeys? Apart from your Croatia trip obviously. Either that or a crappy tune as dumped too much soot into it.

In that case, I too would be questioning either the tune or the use of the car.

Does it do short journeys (under 20 min) where the engine doesn't get fully up to temperature?

What fuel do you typically use? (don't say diesel! I mean Shell/BP etc or supermarket?)

I make lots of longer journeys so it does seem to be a crappy tune yeah. Diesel is usually Circle K or Preem (here in Sweden).
