Hi. I have a 2018 X5M with comfort access. One key is working fine, the other won’t open the car via comfort access or pressing the button, it will start the car but only if I hold it against the steering column in the appropriate place. I’ve changed the battery in the offending key so it’s not that. I have a recollection that you can recode a key by holding it against the marked location on the steering column and pressing the start button for a few seconds, I’ve tried this to no avail (albeit I wonder if I’m remembering the procedure incorrectly?). Any ideas anyone has, much appreciated.

Had something similar with the wifes X 1 a while back

Tried various new batteries no joy. Spoke to the dealership who said they had seen this before and to try Varta batteries

I was rather sceptical but did as suggested - put a new Varta battery in and key worked fine
