Anyone here done BMW concours events?
Discussion
Concours events have never really been a thing for me, but my old e38 728i is something that I’d love to enter into one as it’s an absolutely outstanding example.
But I’m never too sure how far you need to go, for example, I need to put a new windscreen in it(put a crack in the current one) and I’ll obviously put a genuine BMW one in it, do I need to try and source a replacement warning sticker(the one in the top n/s corner) for it? As I can’t find them anywhere.
Another question is what is seen as better, an original item/part with a mark on it, or an immaculate non-original part?

The experience I have with such events is in helping to prepare (glass).
I wouldn't entering with a cracked 'screen will go unnoticed. If you so opt for a replacement, they're not as available as they once were. The trim along the top (essential, and the OE ones fit how they were designed to) is about £50.00 and the detail is in getting it to meet rubber on the drip mouldings. Getting it right can take a bit of patience given the age of the car and the most of the drip mouldings will be showing signs of age. The rubber slides down the moulding and over time forms the wrong shape.

Oddly, yes, by accident.
I went to a classic car show, the queue that I drove in took me to the entrants' way in.
Being in a very clean and smart bmw convertible sportcar, I was waved into the showground to park amongst the other cars on display.
The car had private plates on, but was just a day old, so was in brand new showroom condition, but noone would know.
Still didn't get a prize!

Yeah, I’m definitely replacing the glass, wouldn’t get an MOT as it is, thanks for the info regarding the trim though.I wouldn't entering with a cracked 'screen will go unnoticed. The trim should be ok as she’s a low mileage example that’s been garaged from new and never been used in winter.
Been cleaning up the wheel arches recently but need to order some new trim screws to replace the rusty ones.
Wheel wells clean up lovely and its all 100% original(even the brake discs):
