Time to move on from a 530D as my main car, I want something fun, exciting and convertible, I've worked like hell for 16 years building businesses and it's time to get something open top and fun to enjoy before I turn 50 in 5 years

Budget - upto around 55k, considered an R8, but put off by potential niggles at the age of the car I'd be getting for my budget
Astons, Maseratis etc, older super cars etc - not grabbed by, I want something newish and highly reliable, will be keeping whatever I get for a good 5 years until i'm 50
840D - good performance, affordable running costs, a few for around 45k BMW UAC
M850i - where my heart really is and quite a jump from my current car, great performance, a few good examples at around 55k BMW AUC

Main home central London (W1), so this will be living on the streets, likely out twice a month

Would love to hear thoughts from anyone with a 8 series or ideas of anything else I should be considering?

In my opinion only one choice for a cabriolet and that is a nice sounding petrol engine. The M850i fits the bill perfectly and actually sounds nicer (more natural and muscular V8 sound) than an M8.

Enjoy the fruit of your hard labour!

The car living on the streets (crime-ridden streets of the capital) would be a concern for me.

But I don't live there, so not really a concern.
