Last night, 300 miles from home the front wipers stopped working on our LCI 5 series. Just stopped, no sign of impending failure. Working normally then not at all. Managed to get to our destination and this morning I’ve had a chance to take a look at them. Motor is getting power so relay seems okay. Managed to get them moving by helping them by hand and then gave lubricated every joint I could get to. They will now work normally but then they seem to cut out again after a short while. Any ideas?

A mate had a similar issue, the problem lay with the arm linkage being broken, evidently a common fault at a certain age.

Cheers. Since I posted, the wipers have given up completely. I think the issue lies somewhere within the motor or the drive from the motor. The linkage itself seems to be okay and free moving. As soon as there is any resistance on the wipers, the motor dies. If I take the wipers off, I can run the motor.

I've ordered a new/old tested motor with linkage so I'm hoping that is going to sort the issue. Fingers crossed.
