Im looking at buying a 640d M sport probably about a 66/17 plate. Can anyone advise if you can completely turn off the keyless feature easily. We have had a lot of cars round here disappearing in the night and it’s a deal breaker for me. If it can’t be turned off I won’t buy one. Google seems to throw up many answers and not all the same.

Not sure if it can be turned off, I’m sure it could be coded somehow.
Otherwise just get yourself a faraday pouch to keep the key in. Wasn’t keen on mine having keyless entry but I got a couple of pouches and every time I come in the key goes into it.

Is it really that simple. As long as you put both keys in a pouch it’s fine.

I put my F90 keys in a faraday pouch when in the house.

I can stand by the driver's door with the pouch in my pocket and the car stays locked. They really do block the signal.

Also on any potential car you are loooking at buying, check the keyless relates to both unlocking and starting - on mine I have to physically press the unlock button on the fob to get in the car, it is then keyless start.

I think others are completely keyless for both (as was my previous E92).

I'm thinking the need to use the remote for entry maybe makes it a bit more secure (but probably not much).

If you Farday pouch it then yes, but check the pouch works regularly as some do fail over time.

Regarding comfort access on the F06/F12/F13 then no you need to do coding to turn it off. There is no on the fly way to turn it off.

Also unlike later cars the standard key does not have a sleep mode that later G models got....

Thanks, I’ll look into that part further. They need to sort this problem out as in Nottingham quite a few keyless seem to disappear in the night including a friend of mines so I’m very wary.

My 3 series has the same, you have to push the button to unlock the car. There's no keyhole, once you are in if you have the key you can start it. Don't know how much safer that makes it, particularly if you forget to lock the car, but clearly an extra barrier.

Physically pressing a button on the door is still keyless. It's still reliant on the signal from your key, and therefor, could still be stolen the same way any other keyless car is stolen, usually via signal boosters/repeaters.

Except that your key won't send a signal to be relayed unless you press the button on it.

Except I don't press a button on the door - I have to use the keyfob.

Completely miss-read the post. Apologies, please ignore me!
