I'm half considering chopping my S5 in for one of these (around 2018-2019) and wondered if there was anything I should look out for other than the norm.

I know the go-to response is a 435d but this will be a daily and so outright power isn't a major concern (although a nice touch!).

Insurance seems similar to my S5 which I find a bit odd, but I have only done a quick comparison site quote to give me an idea.

Any 'must haves' on spec, major faults to be aware of etc?

It will have the N57 which suffers from timing chain and main bearing problems.

They have the N57 engines which don't ALL suffer from timing chain issues... Find one that's been well serviced and sensible oil changes and it should be fine...

Lots of naysayers on here lately...

We've looked at these as well; but too small for what we want.

But at a minimum I'd want LCI, pro-nav, heated seats & powerfold mirrors

The 435d xDrive will be on blancmange spec suspension from the factory unless upgraded with the ACS package which few were
I had a 335d and its ride and handling were awful
And runflats are terrible in winter conditions too

So.........

430d every time with a second set of alloys on winters with your spare cash

And as mentioned you absolutely need ProNav to make the interior nice and the HK speaker upgrade as the standard system is terrible
Other options a matter of personal choice, I liked the storage package which was cheap but gave me handy boot stuff plus an excellent cubby in the dash near my right knee for keeping house keys safe

Good luck and happy hunting - it will be a lovely car when you find one

Cheers
