I'm about to change to the winter wheels on my daughters 4 series.

By the looks of it the winters I've bought, don't look like they have TPMS sensors fitted, and to be honest I forgot to ask the guy I bought them from back in may. They have a Schrader valve - so its unlikely to have the sensor inside.

The local tyre emporium have suggested taking the summer wheels TPMS out and fitting to the winter wheels, as they weren't sure that another set of sensors could be coded to the car (i.e have 2 sets), is this correct???

On her mini - the winters had TPMS fitted and worked fine when on the car. Surely its a case of just coding 4 new sensors to the same frequency as the summer wheels and fitting them?

or am I missing something here??

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated!

Most TPMS sensors come ready programmed, the ones I have in my winter wheels certainly did..

Pretty sure they still do these..

They don’t need coding. Just buy four for the winter wheels.

I recently bought 4 x OEM MINI F56 16" wheels for my wife's 2021 MINI. Had two of the tyres changed and fitted the wheels on the drive, reset the TPMS in the car and all 4 worked straight away.

So bit of an update.
Went to the local tyre place. The ones who are the ones to trust…..

Had them fit 4 new TPMS valves and sensors - f😵‍💫ck knows what they’ve done.

The wheels are staggered 18’s but as BMW recommends fitted with the same size tyres. They started by have the back on the front and vice versa on one side.

The system now won’t reset or calibrate.

Car try’s to reset the system gets to 49% and then gives a tyre pressure monitor failure message, and then the warning light comes on the dash.

To be honest, they try. But Come on is it that hard???

You shouldn’t be putting same size tyres on a staggered setup. BMW recommends a square setup for winter wheels, so same width wheel front and rear so then you fit the same tyres.

Regarding TPMS, it’s possible they have fitted cheap copy sensors that the car doesn’t like.
