Just scratching another itch and purchased a 550i V8. Service light has popped on, fortunately I do have a BMW Indy who can do the work. My question; is what should I be expected to pay for the full service or an oil service only?
My guess is £260 for oil service
And £525 for full service all inclusive.

Am I in for a bit of a shock?

Thanks in advance.

£260 for an oil service?!

Do that yourself; more so if it has a dipstick tube wink No need to spend silly money on oil; use an oil that meets the necessary BMW specs and Mann/Mahle filters and away you go biggrin

As for full service; if that's inclusive of all the parts (air filter, fuel filter, pollen filters, plugs, other fluids etc) then I'd say that's a good price...

How DIY savvy are you?

The car does have a dip stick tube but what difference would that make? Thanks.

You can get one of these:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/FreeTec-Manual-Vacuum-Ext...

And do the oil change on your driveway without getting dirty smile

No worries; it's all I do now...

On my current E39 540i; I can draw out just over 8l, which leaves around 300-400ml in the sump. About the same as doing it via the sump plug basically...

So no need to be crawling around under the car anymore biggrin

Have one of these too and you're sorted:

Excellent choice of vehicle sir. I really liked my LCI 550i Msport right up to the point it started drinking coolant.

If you've already got a handy BMW indy then ask them for their service pricing and whit it actually includes. I usually do all my own servicing as gives me a good opportunity to poke around and spot oil leaks etc while underneath. Just sucking the oil out from above means you miss minor potential issues until too late.

Thanks for input, I have since studied the service history of the car, I purchased it just a few months ago from a PH’er. It looks like it’s time for a full service so I have now booked it in with a local BMW indy.
Previous owner did some really good work on the car including water pump and other important jobs.
Really very happy with the car especially as it’s a manual gearbox smile

Was this the 550i that was on Car & Classic?

We spotted it advertised on facebook.
It’s finished in mystic blue with cream interior. 2005 vintage.
