G31 “Engine Oil Service Required” message….
Discussion
I have a 2021 G31 540i. It’d done 18.6k miles so is a little overdue for its first service. That service is booked in for December 12th - there was a wait list of 6+ weeks for service appointments and that’s the earliest I could book.
Today it is showing a new message saying “Engine Oil Service Required”, together with dire warnings of engine damage if I don’t visit my BMW service partner immediately.
Is this is a problem or can I just wait for the service appointment next week?
Does it - in truth - mean that an oil top-up is required? I am happy to do this, even if the whole lot will be changed next week.
Is it really just BMW marketing trying to bounce me into booking an appointment, that I can ignore as I have one for Dec 12th?
Thoughts/experiences welcomed in the usual PH way! Thank you in advance.

Usually on the first of the month in which a service falls due the reminder will appear.
I think initially in Amber to indicate its due and then Red when overdue
You are allowed to exceed the intervals by i think either 1 month / 1000 miles or 3 months / 3000 miles without issue.
Think back to the first lockdown when everywhere was shut - BMW simply extended the time between services for 3 months
As it is booked in next week unless you are doing a ridiculous mileage in the next 7 days it will not be a problem.
Its an oil service warning NOT a low oil warning no point adding oil - although you can check the oil level on the I drive
