My 530i's brakes squeal like a pig in an abbatoir when coming to a halt (they only do it at low speed). It's driving me nuts and I need to resolve it. I've tried a few big stops, getting them warmed up etc but to no avail.

I'm guessing it's probably the previous owner fitting cheap pads; the discs look to be in OK condition with no lip - would replacing pads all-round be likely to cure the issue and if so, what's the recommended pad of choice for the G30..?

I don't really care how much life is left in the current pads, I just need the squealing to stop...

You could always start with the obvious.

Strip/clean/grease correctly and make sure everything is free & doing what it should.

Big stops will do nothing at all, except get stuff hot.

I have never had brake squeal in any car when they have been main dealer serviced. It is the repair kit that is used with the disc and pads that makes the difference.

Sorry, should've added - the car is BMW AUC; I asked them to check the brakes when it went in for some warranty work and they've said nothing looks amiss. I'm aware this shouldn't be taken as gospel of course (they said they couldn't replicate the squealing which means they didn't even drive it for 3 mins as it happens very quickly into a journey).

I suppose I could get a mechanic to strip it all down but by the time that's done I might as well get them to stick new pads in there...?

My G30 squeals slightly but only in reverse for some reason. It’s always done this in the over 2yrs I’ve had it. Bought from Bmw.

Looks like BMW OEM pads are Pagid ones?

Edit: just spoke to the mechanic I used to use prior to my lease cars some 4-5 years ago - lovely guy and he's still working on cars. He's going to pick it up next week at some stage and sort it for me. He used to do a great job on my older cars and for a sensible price.
