Currently got an e92 (pre lci) 330i with an N52, had a pretty major service last year when I first bought the car (oil, filters, vanos solenoids, plugs, discs and pads, VCG) and since the car has only covered roughly 5k miles since (mostly longer drives) I'm wondering whether I can put a service off for a bit longer? The OBC reckons it's another 17000 miles (!) or 1 year til the next oil change but I've been told to be a bit wary of the condition based servicing. Any advice welcome

I'd never follow BMWs guidelines for oil changes...

Personally I change mine twice a year even with the low miles I do; oil & filters are cheap (no need to get hung up on labels & snake oil etc; as long as meets the necessary BMW specs, use it) and Mann/Mahle filters (OEM) are c£15 on eBay etc!

Oil changes are cheaper than a tank of VPower!

Use the car; keep the oil fresh & it'll be fine thumbup

I do oil and filter once a year/10k miles. On E9xs I find pollen filters can last two years.

When you put it like that it's a no brainer really!

Exactly!

It's my personal preference... Others may stick to the intervals or change oil every 6-8k mileage etc...

But I can do it on the drive without getting dirty; so why not?!

^What they said, oil and filter cheap enough. Don't think it needs much else after only 5k miles.

I do my oil every 9k.

Millers oil and a Bosch filter are circa £70 from Opie oils, so it’s cheap and a no brainer to do it more.

Annoyingly Opie don’t have Mann filters, but Millers oil is well regarded and with their various discount codes I’m happy enough with Bosch filters.

The real kicker is when I bought a genuine BMW filter is still had the Mann part number, but with a BMW logo as well at a chunk more than ECP sold they came filter for without said BMW loo. laugh

My E91 325i with the N52 engine had full BMWSH and was only ever done to the OE schedules.

But it was still running really sweet when I sold it on 139K miles!

My current E90 330i (also an N52) went 2 years last time, but it had only done 8,000 miles. That seems frequent enough to me, and it's also running great approaching 120K miles.

Haha yeah I've seen that... Had Mann, Mahle filters with BMW stuff on them & vice versa

Bosch filters have always been fine IIRC, Crossland also

Never used Millers oils; used to be a Fuchs oil user then Liqui Moly, now I just use oil that meets the necessary specs etc & keep it fresh

Elf Sporti, have been buying the 20 litre drums.

Filter: Mann typically, bought from eBay or CP4L depending on their 'sale' code, whatever is cheaper. Buy a few at a time.

I wouldn't piss on a Crosland filter real CHEAP Chinese junk (I say CHEAP because China can produce quality when paid properly) and Crosland aint it , Crosland is not the same Crosland from way back when by the way frown have witnessed more filter failures inc fuel filters (leaking / dangerously so) etc from poor joints and materials than any other filter in over 35 years on the tools , obviously I have never used this brand I tend to stick with Mann Mahle Hengst Bosch UFI etc etc
