Hi all,
I am looking at a possible purchase of a 3.0 M135i and I was wondering what the standard phone connection is like for listening to music? This would be an online service like Amazon music (or similar). Can I do this by Bluetooth? If so is Bluetooth standard?
Thanks
Yes, you’ll be able to stream music via Bluetooth. Sound quality is ok but nothing to write home about. If you pay BMW for an online connection, the Deezer app integrates well with the pro nav.

Thanks both. So I don't need to look out for cars with a certain package to be able to stream from my phone, that makes life a touch easier!
It’s worth hunting out a car with pro nav though; it looks better if nothing else.CarPlay can be retrofitted and makes life easy re streaming music and having up to date nav.
Not all of the earlier cars have bluetooth for music streaming mind, they all come with hands free, but need EBT (Extended Bluetooth) for music streaming.
It can be coded in using Esys if the car has the right supporting kit (pro nav is fine, anything else iirc needs the combox in the boot).
If it's an LCI (facelift, 2015-on) car, I believe they came with EBT as standard.
Also, only the HK upgrade comes with the door tweeters, the basic and mid-level stereos don't.
If you want android auto, you need to buy an MMI box for it, you can't add it to the OE system internally (unlike carplay, which can be retrofitted by changing the idrive/audio system for one from a later car)

Ahhh why is it so complex ha ha. It would be a 2014 or older car. I want one with pro Nav anyway, so that's good. I've seen some YouTube videos where they've changed the screen and I think these have android auto.
Mine is a pre-LCI late-2013 built car, which came with pro nav and BT Handsfree but not EBT. If you're going to swap the screen for one with android auto, I wouldn't worry too much about getting one with pro nav tbh. Just make sure you get one with BT for music streaming. Generally people go for pro nav for the larger 8.8" screen, but if you're changing it anyway, I wouldn't get too hung up on it.
If you're happy with an MMI box (so an additional box, using the OE screen) then finding one with pro nav and the bigger OE screen makes more sense.
Also (and I appreciate this is a huge detour from the thread topic!), keep an eye out for the build date of the car, mid(ish - June/July) 2013 saw the N55 change from a pneumatic wastegate to the electrically controlled one, along with a small power hike from 315hp to 326hp or so, and the later EWG gives better returns if you want to map the car at a later date. You can tell EWG vs PWG by looking at the turbo side of the engine, if there's a black box with a wire connected to it rather than a vac line, it's a later car.
