I have a new car on order, which arrives in March/April 2023. It's a lease deal, through salary sacrifice.

This means I will need to sell my current G31 5 Series Touring. Being as I'm not particularly convinced that used car prices will hold up as well as they have been, I'm looking at getting shot of it now and buying a (comparative) snotter to run around in for a few months whilst banking my car allowance.

Are dealers still craving used car stock?

It's a 2017 model - will a BMW main dealer be interested? If not, is there a particular type of dealer people would recommend going to?

I really CBA with selling it privately. WBAC/Motorway.co.uk is obviously an option, but if I can do better then I'd obviously like to explore that.

TIA

Stick it on something like CarWow.
The dealers will then contact you and it's a pretty painless process of getting it off your drive.

Recently sold my 2016 X5M, and CarWow offered a better price than Motorway, which dicked about far too much.
Whilst on the site, i did get a bid from BMW Sytner in Coventry, i'm in London.

Also try Motorway. They charge the buyer about £400 iirc

If you can be bothered, it might be worth ringing round a few dealers.

Autotrader/Manheim worth a try too. I just used them and it was very painless.

I've sold my last few cars using WBAC as they've always given the best price. Dealers weren't even close and most will only be interested if your part exing.

This isn't my experience. I've sold an A7, M140, and M340 to dealers in the last 12 months.

I find Cazoo starting bids much higher than Motorway and WBAC.

Sold my car recently and the best price AND easiest process was with Carwow. I'd certainly use them again.

Thank you for the replies

These Carwow/WBAC/Motorway places - what's the deal with upcoming servicing?

The car is due a service in around 1500 miles and a brake pad warning light is on.

Such matters are not mentioned in their T's & C's of the offer they make - all they seem to care about is the length of the MOT.

Will my price get chipped in light of these things so I'm best off getting them done beforehand?

One thing to consider with Cazoo is they won't take cars on finance.

If the service light isn't on I wouldn't worry about it. Brake pad light you will need to visually inspect the pads as our old F11 threw a brake pad light and the car had only done 8k miles.

I recently sold my BMW to a main dealer for £23,000... Webuyanycar offered £18,395. It was just under 4 years old. I would say try ringing a few dealers.

Those that are quoting sales to main dealers need to denote whether the sale was part of a deal i.e. a part exchange or a straight sale and yes if your car needs additional prep/servicing or replacement parts they will reflect that in the price offered in the same you would if you were buying.

Mine was a straight sale, not a part exchange.

A workmate recently sold his 335i touring, when it was collected they had a Range Rover on board their truck that the company had paid £20k over book for!

I don't remember the details, what company etc.

I entered details of my car into WBAC just out of interest (not selling any time soon), the valuation quoted was a joke, nearly half what they are advertised at?
