BMW e61 530d - blown turbo? Or something else.
Discussion
Quite eventful drive home from work today, think I may have a knackard turbo on my 2004 530d.
Car will idle and drive ok until about 1300rpm when there’s a fairly horrible clattering noise and no boost. Car won’t Rev over about 2000rpm.
Strangely doesn’t seam to have thrown any light up on the dash.
First thoughts were that the turbo may have failed, but any other common issues to look out for (from my terrible clues).

It didn't smoke until I sent to have another look and now lots of white smoke as soon as it tries to come on boost.
Not sure if the breather of flaps have been done and it's not showing any codes on the cheap fault code reader I have.
Hopefully got a mechanic who works for a local BMW place take a quick look at it tomorrow on his way home.

I had the same on a 2008 BMW 320d when accelerating at approx 118k.
Going along at 70mph, it was as if an anchor had been thrown out the window.
No smoke, just really down on power, anything getting close to boost the engine would make a terrible racket. Limped it home.
Turbo was at fault, I can't remember the exact term used but along the lines of the core of the turbo collapsing.
Sent the turbo off for refurbishment and an oil change plus feed return pipes ( as at that time I didn't know the cause) and was back to business as usual.

Thanks for the reply
It is certainly looking like a turbo, Looks like an absolutely horrible job to change.
They're not bad. The turbo to downpipe clamp is OK, so are the three turbo to manifold bolts, accessible via three holes in the air filter housing plus the oil feed pipe.It is certainly looking like a turbo, Looks like an absolutely horrible job to change.
