If I bought an approved used F32 440i would folks recommend extending the BMW warranty once it ended or are these cars pretty safe to run without a warranty and some contingency money in the bank?

Also, how much do BMW charge for the warranties on these? The only way to find out from BMW appears to be to obtain a quote for a specific car. I don't have a specific car as I'm doing due diligence before possibly buying one. I'd be looking at a 4-5 year old example with 20-30k miles on it and doing 3-6k miles per annum going forward, if that's relevant.

I’ve got a 40k miles, 2017 F33 440i, and last year had the BMW insured warranty on it, comprehensive and with £100 excess. It was £70/month.

I’m not going to bother this year with the renewal, I don’t think anyway. The renewal is up a few quid a month to £72.xx (I forget the exact amount), and I just don’t anticipate getting any use from it.

60-120 miles a week ,I do not think I would bother. I do about 350/400 a week and I pay £48 a month for 2018 335d £250 excess .Mind you I did the same mileage in my 2014 330d bought from new had the extended warranty for 30 months paying £60 a month £100 excess and never ever used it.

Such low mileage I don't think it bother, maybe buy an AUC to get a years warranty but there pretty reliable. Biggest issues I've heard are week intercoolers which they push a rock guard behind the grills on later cars and the oil filter housing snapping.

My 2018 F30 340i on 18k miles was £339 for a comprehensive warranty with £250 excess

No roadside assistance but they will tow you to a BMW dealership- worth noting, that said we also have external cover elsewhere.

A complete no brainer for peace of mind.

B58 doesn't have an intercooler

Sorry yes i meant radiator, they seem to be made of paper on the B48/58 and it wasn't until 2018 they started putting rock guards behind the grills.

That’s not strictly true. It has an intercooler, but it’s in the intake manifold, using a water jacket. It does therefore have an additional heat exchanger (radiator) at the front.

Sounds like a pretty solid car then. I'm looking at September 2018 and onward, so it should have the rock guard.
