I have a little problemette....
i'm getting ready to change my current runabout (seat leon cupra R) for a roadster with a little bith of bite.

Looking to spend around £20k
so the dilemas...really didn't fancy a TT, porsches too expensive (911 preferred rather than the boxter), Z3' dated, ....and so on
has left me with the Z4 or a Tamora.

Tamora - pretty but not yet convinced, great interior, but v.scared of TVR reliability and saftey.
Z4 - love the looks outside, hate the BMW interior,

SO what are your thoughts on this? What things should I look out for and what would convince me this is the car for me?

I've been looking as well for a toy. 996 (911) looks like starting about 25k but get a porsche check over first due to the rear main bearing problems. Same with the boxsters (must be an S). Z4 build quality problems. Z3 M 320 bhp and not many about for about 15k in estoril blue maybe... TVR get life insurance as well . Put a M3 and a boxster side by side and the boxster looks the more expensive . Hope it helps.... Boxster S on a 2001 is the way to go for about 19k if you can find it

If you buy the Z4, you will arrive at your destination with a 'Wham' era Perm.

If you buy a Tamora, you might not arrive at your destination, but if you do.. your hair will have been ripped out..

I'd have the TVR... bit i'm a bit

I picked up a 2003 Z4 2.5 with full options (apart from Sat Nav) with 2760 miles from a BMW dealer in March. I find it a blast on testing A & B roads, but if a TVR is in the frame I would imagine that you will find any Z4 (Alpina aside, but that's beyond your budget) a bit slow.
Interior grows on you after a few days in the "office", spacious (but lacking in storage space), but a pleasant place to spend time. Handling is good, harsh ride on runflats (more so on the 18" wheels on mine), but a good useable day to day sportscar. Take a few out and see if it's the car for you!

small and lower slung?

Are you thinking the philrose means the M3 Coupe?

I think he means Z3M Coupe (if not then ignore me )

Small yes, dated looks - probably, but they're so different you shouldn't care, low slung Very! Get one with ACS suspension and you'll be creeping over speed bumps in no time at all

Back to your original question, I'd be wary of buying a Tamora for that money - they're are a TVR afterall and you would need to buy a good one with a warranty. Don't think you'll get that for 20k.

Re: the Z4, buy a 2001+ model Honda S2000, spend a few k on modifying it to your desires (noise and handling only as it won't go faster than it does already) and you'll have a better car - except in the wet where Top Gear proved you need a boxster
