M240i X Drive - new car
Discussion
Swapped over the M6 GC for a new M240- Xdrive yesterday.
First impressions - exactly what i had hoped for, which was a far more exciting and involving drive than the M6. Engine sounds superb when revved - not that close to the redline yet as it's only done 1500 miles- and is so much smoother and more responsive than the V8.
It's actually fun to hustle around corners, and traction is a revelation after the last car.
Great deal done at Cotswolds BMW again. Nice to have a good main dealer experience.
Totally painless and a good bunch of enthusiasts there.
Other folks seem to like the Thundernight purple too.

Just checked AT, the purple does look good.
Does strike as a rather big car for the small model, over 4.5m long and nearly 1.7 tons. A little shorter than the 3 series and the same weight near enough. The 4 is even bigger and heavier though, which is probably a fairer comparison. Looks a lot better than the 4 too.
Hope you enjoy it.

Looks awesome. I'm more interested in the car port though...how long is that roof and is it attached to yours and your neighbour's house? I've got a two car nose-to-tail drive which looks similar and have often wondered about adding some sort of cover.
Ah - the wider view picture would have shown my house is linked attached, so actually there is a bedroom above the car port, next door's house is a mirror image of mine. It's not something added on. BMW 2 series doors are very long.
i've done about 500 miles now, and liking the car more and more.
A few longer trips on motorways and A roads show that late 30's /early 40's mpg is very realistic, so 350 mile range is likely. Considering it costs almost £50 a tank less to fill vs previous car that's superb.
There is more of a difference in driving modes vs other BMW's i've had before. Eco pro> Sport plus is quite a jump. Fun though.
Grip. Lots of it. Traction and roadholding, the turn in is very addictive and i'm already having much more fun than i ever did in my previous M6.
Steering feel - odd is best way of putting it, but i'm getting used to it now.
The colour is far more of an attention magnet than i expected. Not had this many thumbs up since i owned a pearlescent green Jag XKR.
Ride is firm - that's my only gripe i suppose, but the handling and roadholding is the pay off.
Also discovered i have that Reverse parking assistant - didn't realise at all. Bizarre to see steering wheel move by itself and you only have to touch throttle and brakes. Very neat.

Turning into an owners drive thread.
Back from Cornwall trip. Found some great driving roads out from Lands end, past Sennan cove north towards St Ives (B3306 if anyone is interested) .
Most of my driving this week has been in the pouring rain but the car has been very stable, extremely quick and genuinely fun and quiet roads.
Gentle drive home today A30/M5/M5 netted 41Mpg @ 69mph average. that results in a genuine 440 mile range. Onboard computer surprisingly accurate vs brimmed tank measurement. For the week i've averaged 33mpg including pottering through many small towns which isn't bad at all given the performance available.

I've done just over 3,000 miles in mine now and enjoying it very much, done a few back to back days with the M2 which still feels quicker even though less BHP and better sound but the 240 is easier and more comfortable and a very capable car,I choose Thundernight which suits it well imo.....
