I have a feeling that the problem with the new M5 is that the old M5 was a fantastic car, better looking and you can pick them up for a fraction of the price of the new M5. The new M5 is going to take a serious hit in price in a very short time.

I think most people get an M5 because its a 'practical' performance car, but does a practical performance car need more than 400hp?

I wish you all the best in selling.

I think you are wrong, Julian, but I have driven the new M5, so I have the advantage over you of understanding what makes it so fantastic.

It doesn't feel like a big car with lots of power. It feels small and nimble and very fast. It's a step beyond the already wonderful E39 M5.

Well, okay, for me to understand and to beat the E39 M5 in mine eyes it would have to glide about normal driving speeds for an efficient workhorse. My M5 after 4000 miles is returning 24.1 mpg. Thats mainly motorway to work then stop start short town driving during the day.
Then on a hoon, and with the sport button pressed be fun to drive.

Now I can understand how a 500 bhp car is fun to drive, but to be honest mines 400 bhp is pretty lary.
But what I can't understand is why anyone, once they wanted the car in a town driving mode would want 400bhp? Even at 300bhp with my sport turned off the car is seriously overpowered for town driving.

The E60 is in a different world over the E39, trust me.

I love both and this is the truth

Well for me, it may actually be the perfect car. I live in London and don't have the space to store several cars. If I did, then I would keep the CSL and think about buying a 535d. I don't and my mileage isn't big enough to make the fuel consumption unbearable, so I think the M5 is probably ideal.

Try selling it in the back of Autocar or such like. Dealers still quote 2007 deliveries. I've driven it as well so I know why. Mindblowing. One of my neighbours has just bought one, knows how he can afford it!
