Airbag light on E39

dashboard light does not go out after ignition.

anyone got any idea of a common problem or quick fix.

Don't fancy taking it into BMW for a big bill for them to tell me hwtas wrong with it.

E39 540i 1997.

It's a common fault- I had the same on my E46 325. It'll need a replacement cable on the drivers side, or a replacement "pad" on the passenger side. Cost c. £125 from a BMW specialist that had the correct diagnostics.

Mine had a similar problem, I had a wiggle around under the passenger seat. My wife had put a pair of shoes under there when she moved the seat back which had somehow caused a fault reading. Give everything a good prod to check the cables are all secure under there. I reckon that's your best bet, then new cable..
