As a serious consideration for my new 'family' car I was wondering how satisfied current 530 (new shape) owners are with their cars?
I realize its a bit of a vague question but it all counts!
thanks

in a word, Very.

car is 2005 530i Sport (new 258BHP engine)

liked looks of the sport model over the std SE model, just looks meaner IMHO.

goes like s**t off a shovel when you want it to but it equally happy the way i drive it 99.9% of the time which is just pootlin about.

this is 3rd bmw i've owned, like others before it, handling is first rate, brakes superb etc etc.....all usual things you expect from a german car.

to be fair didn't need a 3.0ltr engine but the "boy" in me won, childish i know. don't like driving quickly but i like knowning i can if i want to...how f--kin sad is that!!!

few options i went for on mine are:
- HiFi upgrade, there are two on the list, went for the £370 one, well worth as std speakers are s h i t e, leave this box unticked at your peril!

- Media Pack, gives you SatNav (various map views), bluetooth phone system (v.good), 6 cd changer

- Visibility Pack, gives you Xenon h/lights, h/lamp wash and adaptive headlights (turn'y ones). 2nd car i've had now with Xenon's, thought they were a gimic till i had first car with them now i wouldn't buy a car without them, the amount of xtra light they throw out even in dipped mode is staggering and main beam is like daylight.

other not so essential options were full leather, advanced aircon (allows greater control of interior temp (inc via computer) but crucially comes with "better looking" dials how shallow is that???? ROTFL) and electric dimming / dipping mirrors

You are one sad bastard, but as it happens I have an identical opinion
Sounds good and you seem to have similar opinions as myself generally.
Ill be buying 'used' so I wont be able to be that choosy about spec.
Every single on on used market seems to be silver with black leather. Is that the only option from new!

Oh and better looking dials- utterly essential. The thought of someone out there driving around with better dials than you is out of the question

if you see the std A/C dials and then the advanced A/C setup you'll know what i mean to be honest the advanced A/C should be the standard and only setup available but thats BMW for you...always squeezing out the last few ££££

my car is silver grey / black interior...ok so still silver'ish but not typical silver merc styleee colour, looks a bit different.

What phone have you got with the bluetooth? Presumably youve gone for the armrest slot.

I have a 535d sport on order (yes, silver / black leather). Havent ticked the hi-fi upgrade option though.

as u probably know the "supported" phone list at BMW's bluetooth site is not that extensive. not all their fault, also fault of phone manufacturers not sticking to stds. still they are supporting/adding new handsets to the list all the time.

i managed to get hold of a SE T630 from Vodafone, they had them in their warehouse as they were "old models" now and not trendy i guess? but it does me...i don't care if my phone cannot toast bread or hold 1M mp3's...so long as it works with the car...makes and recv's calls ok...thats all i ask of it.

also bought the cradle for it (£55) from bmw that fits in the armrest, you don't have to have the cradle for the phone to work with the cars bluetooth system but i wanted it because.....well just because also when in the cradle the car charges the phone and the phone also utilize the shark fin antenna on the roof so reception is much improved.

when choosing a phone select one from the list that supports automatic transfer of your phones phonebook that way when paired with the car all your contacts on your SIM are then view/selectable via the cars i-drive system, which i like.

ps: if your spec if changeable on your car order...add the HiFi option, you wont regret it. £370 well spent.

Balls - missed the cut-off for re speccing the speakers. Regarding the phone, I have had Siemens before and they seemed good. Curremtly got a Nokia 6600 which wont work / fit.
