will 225/45/18 front and 255/40/18 wheels and tyres from a m3 fit straight onto my 323i e46 without any adjustments thanks

No, they won't fit. The fronts might, I think , but the rears won't as the offset is different. You would also need different tyres as the diameter of the M3 wheels + Tyre is greater than that of a normal 3 Series Coupe wheel + tyre.

I'd suggest getting some wheels that are actually designed for the car, like the new M Sport 18" ones.
