New 525i or 525d?

Hi, looking at changing Personal Lease car in next 3-4 months & was looking a the 525d, however I now understand that the 525i has been fitted with the new 'super lightweight' 2.5 straight six, similar to the new 3.0 lump, with 215bhp.

Wondering if anyone had driven the new car with the new engine & what they thought.

Have driven the diesel but do like the thought of sound of the petrol six as it gets revved to the max...!:driving:

i've got the new 258BHP 3.0i in my 05 plate E60 Sport and the engine is superb, used to have the previous 231BHP 3.0i and the difference is VERY noticeable probably due to the obvious facts...its more powerful, has the valvetronic system, is a LOT lighter...so car is lighter.

not driven the new 525i but did have a 525d loan car a few weeks ago and was impressed with the performance but i'm not a diesel fan so for me, of your choices i would go for the 525i....but test both and if MPG is a concern the 525d was giving me about 37-38 mpg on m'way runs which is bloody good.

Thanks for response Mr Northernmonkey! I'm off to test drive a 525i later today so will make my mind up after that.

Fuel consumption not at the forefront of my mind as I have the luxury of my fuel being paid for - apologies to any environmentalists out there!

I thought the 525d was impressive but not as 'sexy' sounding or feeling as a good high revving, normally aspirated, creamy smooth petrol straight six....

Despite approaching my aherm late thirties at a depressing rate, just a big kid at heart...
