I've been driving my mums 2019 118i M-sport around recently and noticed something a little annoying. The engine management seems to be holding revs high during gear changes (its a manual) meaning that if you don't lift the clutch gently and let it slip slightly OR wait until the revs gradually decay to match the new gear you get a thump in the back during almost every change up - this means there is no such thing as a quick shift in this car without mechanical pain
As this car is an M-sport there is more wizardry going on to rev-match as down shifting is handled perfectly with a little automatic throttle blip to slip into the new gear nicely

My car is a 2014 F20 118d (also a manual) which i'm aware has a very different engine and management setup, but this annoyance doesn't exist at all as i am able to drive without even thinking. The engine speed decays naturally at the perfect speed to match the next gear by the time it has been engaged

Has anyone else noticed this or am i just being picky/a crap driver?!

Clutch delay valve or I am aware some cars raise the revs during move off to avoid stalling.

A lot of this kind of thing is done for emissions - the transient tip in/out is a difficult aspect to control. I'm sure Max_Torque and the other OEM powertrain beards on here could explain it properly.

First thing would definitely be to check the CDV if it has one, but it doesn't sound like that.

Just wondering if you got this issue fixed and what it was? I have the same issue on my 118i.
