The BMW M5 is famous for it's massive depreciation. The question is how is the M6 likely to perform?

I would guess that it is going to depreciate significantly slower than the M5 as it is a priced as premium Ferrari rival and supply is limited. The Z8 for example has held its value quite well.

Which is a shame because that will mean it takes longer to depreciate down to my budget :)

I think the M5 is limited to 250 units per year, hence the waiting lists. Didn't they attempt something similar with the CSL 'exclusivity' factor by limiting production runs before prices dropped like a stone on forecourts.

The M6 will certainly depreciate more than a 997.

The Z8 was a terrible depreciator in the first year in fact it is only in the last year or so it has stabilised. Fortunately the new M6 will be helped by the very limited supply. Not sure its worth £20K more than an M5 though!!

Fortunately, CSL prices appear to have stabilised at £40-£44k. There are only 422 in the country, so they should hold up reasonably well from now. I'm glad I didn't buy mine new.

I'm talking about the prices on bmw.co.uk, not what I could get.

I'm not selling mine to you for that.

It will be a couple of years before the M5 drops in price. There aren't any used examples for sale yet only new or imports, which are fetching atleast £4K over list!!

The M6 will be the same.

The reason the Z8 dropped like a stone was because it was only available in LHD....

As for the CSL they have found there price now, i wouldn't expect to see them at £30k for a long time yet..unless you find one that has been to the moon and back!

What Frank Sytner asks for and what he gets on a car are two very different figures

No, they price themselves out of the market.
