Hi,

Can anyone help with where the pollen and fuel filters are located on a 1999 BMW 318 Ti Sport (SE) with the M44 engine?

The pollen filter doesn't appear to be in the section with the wiper motor assembly. I'm guessing it may be under the dash??

And the the fuel filter is perhaps under the car at the rear?

Also, do you need a filter wrench for the oil filter housing? I tried a strap wrench and it just slips off  If so, is there any particular size to ask for?

Many thanks in advance!

The link below shows a lefthand drive one, so the steering column is in the way but if you look at the bottom pic where the green arrow points to the middle of the filter, it is designed to slide here so you can slide out the bottom part until you can drop it downwards out of the heater and slide out the top half clearing the column
so remove the drivers side underdash trim and lower airvent to floor and unclip side panel to heater box [twist knob and pull] then slide out filter.
it will make more sense when you see the new one and how far it slides etc.

Thanks for that FWN, looks like the same filter unit but the dash is totally different on the compact.

I'll have a look again tonight.

Why the hell is it so tricky to get at on some cars?

T'was really easy on my last VW Passat!
