I'm just wondering as I had sold my wife the idea of an M3 saloon as a suitable family car... We tried an M3 Evo and it seemed heavy to her (clutch / gearbox etc). I wonder if it was typical or maybe I should keep looking.

Are clutches/controls etc heavier on M3's than on other manual 3 series's?

How do peoples wives/girlfriends get on with driving your M3's?

My wife drives an M3 Evo all the time - takes me all the time to get it off her (the car!)

Think it's something you get used to, It doesn't have an especially heavy clutch but probably quite different if you're used to a much smaller car?

Not especially heavier than normal BMW's , but my Mum has always said the same thing about all BMW's

Oh, and remember it has no traction control and a vicous LSD, be very carefull in the wet... or you or her will do what i did ..

I've had my Evo for 9 months and the GLW has still not driven it. Hoping to keep it that way !

Clutch isn't ridiculously heavy, but it is rather heavier and has a less progressive action than on the cooking 3 Series. I don't look forward to traffic jams, for this reason in addition to the normal ones...

danielw - can I 'hijack' your thread for two mins??

vixpy1 - has an E36 M3 3.0 (pre-3.2 Evo) got an LSD, or were they only introduced on the 3.2 Evo ('96 onwards)?

I do own an M3 and I am female too. I am quite happy to admit that it did take a lot of getting used to, but once I found the perfect driving position it is absolutely superb. Tell her to get one.

I did enjoy "crushing" a 996 Carrera Cabriolet on the main road into Swindon on Friday, it was quite satisfying as he was trying to show off to his lady passenger

Sadly mine will be going as I will be moving to a diesel. An M3 is not that great for doing 2K miles a month from a running cost perspective.

I went from a Chimaera to my M3 Evo and the missus much prefers driving the M3.....she says it is much more user friendly......although I do have to agree with the 'traffic/clutch' complaint....I get an achey left leg in heavy traffic.
