Just watched Matt Watson’s carwow video on it and I’ve officially concluded that I want one.

I’m not entirely sure I can afford it though, it depends on the PCP figures which is what brings me to this thread.

Before I get burnt at the stake for possibly opting for PCP because I can’t necessarily afford a car, save your breath (or finger typing movement)! I can’t afford to buy the car however seeing as BMW heavily discount their cars thus leading to some attractive PCP deals, I don’t see why a petrol head shouldn’t go for a car he would only dream of if every car was bought outright.

I’m so done with my C-Class that I’m actually considering VT’ing it just to get into something my heart belongs to!

My brother enquired on this on his lease and they said you need to pay 45% of what’s left that you owe on the lease which should work out at around 2500 as of today which should get lower after each month, I’m in no rush but I also don’t want to wait a year until it’s over and there being no M550i deals left.

I’ve actually been longing for the M4 for a while, years in fact and it is my dream car, I’ve spoken to multiple owners or previous owners and they all say the same thing, they say it isn’t that good as it’s very unruly and it’s hard to enjoy BUT I just love the look of it. People have even suggested the M2 and C63’s. Even though I do have a thing for C63’s (they sound 1000 times better than the M4), they just seem to be lacking something, not to mention the coupes being very expensive, 40k for a basic pre facelift coupe. Doesn’t even matter, I’m a BMW nut through and through.

Anyways, the M550i, I think I love it as much as the M4 and considering their price hasnt been dropping past the 40k mark despite the new one being announced, I don’t want to pay over the odds for something that doesn’t have a long warranty left, I want something new, at least a year old. Has anybody got the M550i yet and if so, what figures am looking at?

The reason I’m asking here and not ringing BMW up is because I don’t want to test drive one and have my heart broken when I find it isn’t affordable and B, salesman today are very pushy and I hate feeling like I’ve wasted someone’s time

Thanks in advance and sorry for the ramble

Sounds like you should get the M4. Biggest mistake people make is leaving all the aids on. Drive them old school and they handle just fine

Interesting, however I would say (for most drivers) turning the aids off would be a bigger mistake, especially this time of year...

I wasn't overly impressed by the M4 that I drove, neither was the owner who reckoned the m235i that preceded it was more fun, more of the time.

I watched that review too. It looks like a cracking bit of kit.

Bit big for me, and not something that'd be on my shortlist, but for those looking at a ridiculously fast, large saloon it's a compelling choice. At 530bhp, I do wonder how many sales this will take from the M5. Or maybe there are enough "M or nothing" people to not even consider an M-lite.

I don’t find salesman pushy nowadays...?

Just be honest with them and you’re not wasting anyone’s time

“I am interested in this car, not sure if it’s in my budget, can we go for a drive and talk some figures?”

You’re only wasting someone’s time if you have no intention to buy the car at all.

Just ring up a dealer and speak to someone, Broadspeed show a saving of around 12k off the 71k list, if the APR is 2.9% from BMW on a 48 month PCP I think you'll be looking at around £800 per month before ticking options based on a GFV of 26k after 4 years.

A family member has a m850i gran coupe which I assume has the same engine, and it makes a really lovely noise.

I don't know much ahout the discounts on these, but try TRL deals as well, often more competitive than broadspeed.

Here is an example of a new one with some options and a 9k discount and 2.9% APR finance, 4.5k in and £960 a month, the residual kills the monthlies 24.5k after 4 years, IIRC they offered twice the discount and 10k more GFV on the M5 last year hence it was cheaper, I think the M550i is going to be a rare car.

WTH is going on with car prices.

Inflation is virtually zero, my salary isn't going up particularly fast yet these cars RRP are sky rocketing?

Something I don't know?

Is that example £88k RRP for an M550i? £950 a month?

The price after discount is £68,950 (in the example I linked to) which is what my old F10 M5 was back in 2015 after discount which is around 76k in today's money, inflation hasn't gone away but as you say wage inflation has for many.

Thank you for the link.

Wow! Here I was hoping it would be maximum 600 per month! I won’t be able to afford that. The reason I thought it could be affordable because around 2014 my dad was thinking about a 640d GC which was around 72k list was around 5k down 700 a month, I thought with a slightly lower list, better residuals (being petrol and a performance model) and the same discount would make it pretty affordable.

BMW baffle me, make a cut price M5 that’s 30k cheaper yet makes more sense getting the M5 if you’re financing it?!

It will be a rare care as you said, if I could afford the £960 a month, best believe I’d be paying a couple hundred quid extra and getting the M5.

anti climatic end this love story but that’s punching above your weight for you hehe

I also watched that Carwow vid and thought the M550i looks like a belting bit of kit. I'd be keeping an eye on lease deals and moving quickly if you see one, that's what I've done with my current BMW.

You thought a whacking V8 petrol saloon in the current market would have better residuals than a diesel 6 years ago?

FWIW I was looking at a new 520d m-sport touring two years ago and couldn’t get it under £550pm without a big deposit.

The 550 is a great car but reality is that most people who want a performance petrol 5 series want an M5 so the residuals are better.

Not surprising as this is where the best value is in the BMW range with an AUC at £30k although not PCP as high rate on second hand. Personal loan instead.

A better drive than the M4 or the 550i IMO.

It's not great is it, however that car has options a base one should be around 59k @ 2.9% so that would knock the monthly down.

Sorry totally missed this message. 18 months late is better than never ha.

Been loving it. Its the perfect stealth bomber, fits all the kids car seats and crap in and does 10 second 1/4 miles with zero unwanted attention.
