All,

I have an annoying rattle (when the car is cold) from inside the back box on my 330Ci, 2000 model. 20 seconds later when the car warms up, everything is ok, leading me to think there is just some loose weld/join inside the box. Anyhow, realising that it is getting ever louder and remaining 'rattly' for longer each time I run the car,I contacted BMW main dealer to find out how much in the event I had to replace it.....and they said £389!!! Any chance one of you on here knows where I could get an alternative? German and Swedish and Euro carparts don't seem to stock it.....

Any advice much appreciated.

Try on e of the specialists for a Supersrpint or Miltek ore the like. They can't cost more than that!

you should try pricing the front pipe on an M3. I remember being quoted £1300!

If you are considering replacing it anyway, might be worth wacking it with a lumphammer, might tighten the loose bit up?!

£389!! Your Lucky when I had to replace the system on my E30 M3 the dealer quoted me £1300 + VAT!!
However got in contact with C3 and they sourced me a system, part Supersprint and part OE at if I remember rightly £700 + VAT which was still not exactly inexpensive....

Yes BMW exhaust are a bit pricey but you get what you pay for, it will last a lot longer than a pattern one, and it wont sound rasppy like the cheaps one do.We had one last for 250000 miles on a alpina once, to replace it, it did cost £1,000

Unfortunately the original warranty ran out before I bought the car. However as the car had a new BMW original engine last year (again before I bought it), it is feasible that the exhaust was replaced / part replaced when they did that. I need to check the paperwpork. Thanks for the tip!
