Crystal Ball gazing - F80 M3 CS future values?
Discussion
When the F80 M3 CS came out in 2018 it was significantly over valued, listing at around £85k. I'm pretty sure nobody paid that however...
Today they seem to sit at around £65k.
My (difficult) question is: Is this car special enough and limited edition enough to be an E46 M3 CSL rather than an E46 M3 CS in terms of future values?
Way back in 2008 i nearly bought a E46 CSL, they were then sat at around £40k, and that was top of my budget, and i was doing lots of miles a week, so i bought a diesel estate instead, i know DOH eh! In reality, that £40k was pretty much the lowest those cars (or decent examples of the model) ever got, perhaps dipping into the low £30k's for a couple of years before steadily climbing. The CSL was similarly over priced at list, and like the F80 CS had "relatively" small mods over and above the standard car, but in the last 15 years it has gained a classic status (perhaps beyond it's actually improvement over the very very good base E46 M3) and being a limited production model, the prices have climbed comensurately.
So, to the F80 CS. In the flesh, the CS to me feels like a pretty special car, certainly with the same sort of feeling around it that the E46 CSL had back in the day. But the future is more uncertain than ever, the march of eletricification, climate pressures, population and god knows what else means performance car values in the next 10 years are difficult to predict!
What do we think? Is history going to repeat itself? Is the F80 series not well enough regarded as a base model to make the CS "special" Are there few enough of them to keep them in demand as supply lags that demand?
What do people think? Any CS owners on here?

Not a CS owner, but I think these will be different to the CSL just because the future is changing with electrification, regulations on noise etc. The CSL was misunderstood when it was launched; paying more for less (when I say less I mean tech / creature comforts) but people work up and suddenly realised how good they were.
Not so sure the same will happen to the CS. They’re bloody lovely though and to my eyes better looking than the M4.

I'd say they'll go the same way as the E46 M3 CS. But that's not a bad thing. You seen those prices lately!
Shame, I almost bought one back in the day and ended up with an E91 330D. What was I thinking?!?!
Ha me too, except mine is five better, as a 335d ;-)Shame, I almost bought one back in the day and ended up with an E91 330D. What was I thinking?!?!
Now here we are in 2023.
F80 M3CS having fallen to £60k perhaps 2 -2 1/2 years ago from their new prices , then spiking up a bit in the used car bubble to maybe £65k now are pretty much sitting at high 50's.
Still comfortably higher than M4CS but where do we think they'll go in the next year or two and beyond?

Down down down.
It’s just a normal M with extra bits. Just like the E46 M3 CS.
The CSL was totally different.
Oh I agree on values, though I reckon they'll lose less than regular comps and early G80s It’s just a normal M with extra bits. Just like the E46 M3 CS.
The CSL was totally different.
But the F80CS , as with all the latest generation CS models, is quite a bit more than a regular M3 with some M bits.
Its a genuine M Gmbh product - with some unique bits, and some specific tuning of others
Never properly looked but is this thread correct?

Looks like a remap and parts bin special.
And then just body panels (not carbon fibre or anything exotic), and paint?
I’m not sure I’d be paying a premium.
And by the time they’re older, like E46s, if you’ve used it plenty, value will be based more on its quality of care than much else.
Ie, low mileage and FBMWSH is irrelevant if it’s rotten underneath with RACP flapping around.

They have unique CF bonnets, std carbon roof lighter alcantara trimmed dash, retuned dampers, retuned rear diff, lighter(and reduced diameter) wheels (19" at the front). Remapped S55 with lower and wider torque curve and a little more power.Lighter and better sounding exhaust.https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t...

None of this is earth shattering but its enough to mark it out as different car to a regular comp. pack car. And like M2CS , M5CS and now the new M3CS(G80) they are distinctly superior to the regular M cars. M2 and M5 both EVO Car of the year winners.
so adds up to a decent premium I would say if not quite a CSL or GTS stuff.

Is that remapped dampers and diff?
Or mechanically different?
I dunno maybe it is something a bit special. Totally off my radar really.
I wouldn’t be paying a big premium in future, but then I’d be buying one to drive, not to store away for the residual performance
Springs and dampers are the same as the comp pack, its the tuning that's different. Or mechanically different?

It adds up to rather more than the E46CS I think and they are of course a genuine M product rather than a UK importer exercise.
Does it justify a premium? Maybe, certainly the final and best evolution of the F80 for sure.
