B47 engine to replace N47 in F25 X3?
Discussion
So, my other half's N47 engined F25 X3 has suffered the dreaded timing chain failure recently, so looking at options and I can source a good B47 engine.
Would this be a straight swap? From what I gather the engines are similar except the B47 uses a different turbo? I'm retaining all the original ancillaries including her turbo so would that work?
Thanks in advance!

There will be differences- I know the cylinder heads and timing gears are the same But the block will have differences like mounting points for ancillaries and oil pipe connections.
Why not get your one repaired? They are normally not bad to do - timing chain set, camshaft carrier, rockers. Sometimes valves bend so head also needs to be removed

It’s done about 125k, 2011, service history is ok but assumed as it’s so old BM won’t be interested.
I’ve found an engine from an X1 - same engine code as mine: N47D20C. But no guarantee it will work. It’s only £1100 whereas the cost to strip, inspect, minimum damage will be a few valves at least, the do a proper job on the timing chain will probably be more than that.

Yes as long as the full engine code is the same as yours it will work.
How many miles has this engine done? Will u not potentially be in the same situation again unless you are going to get the chains replaced before fitting it?
Don’t throw the old engine away - it can be rebuilt and sold on . Where I. The country are u?

Did you resolve this in the end? Reason I ask is my old man has a F25 sitting on the drive with an N47 which is surplus to requirements and likely going to get scrapped due to cosmetic damage.Would this be a straight swap?
