If it thinks the boot is open when it's closed then disconnecting the battery may reset the stored parameters, failing that the boot of most cars can be accessed when the rear seats are removed.

Unfortunately the bolts for releasing the backs seats are in the boot along with the battery, is there another way of disconnecting tje power from the engine department

I take it there’s no mechanical option for the boot, using the spare key blade ?

Alternatively, when you use the blade in the drivers door, does it just operate drivers only, or does it do all locks ?

That is to prevent access to the boot when ‘valet’ parked (glove box and boot remain locked when handing over the valet key).

Can you not access the car with the spare key, then reset the iDrive options to change how the doors and boot are locked/unlocked? Check the iDrive menu.

Did you get it open? Sounds like you may have got something jammed in the latch mech.

My son did the same with his Z4. Removed the rear bumper, there were air vents that can be removed and got his arm into the boot.

Turns out i had a broken wire in the loom attached to the boot lid, apparently a common fault with bmw, just wear and tear, 60 quid later with a BMW mechanic and all is good now
