523i SE or S80 2.5T?

i'm looking for a new car. not sure which one to choose, 523i SE or S80 2.5T? both are auto. and i can get them brand new for around 25k (volvo is about 1k cheaper). not too sure about the 5 look. but the current S80 is a kind of old. and i really don't like audi or merc. any comment? thanks.

Don't make a 523 anymore so I assume you mean 525 or 520.

In any event, there is no contest. Whatever you think of the styling, the 5 is in a different league. Drive one and you'll see.

The S80 is a decent enough old thing, but it is very old. Does'nt get close to the BMW.

new S80 due out late next year - values of old ones will bomb! (and they were bad before!)

I like Volvo's a lot, but wouldn't go near one of them at the moment, that and the ride is pretty poor too IMO, S60 is a much better car.

Forget both the BM and the volvo. Buy a Renault Val Satis. Nice car, great price and you get to know the dealer staff really well.

My Girlfriend's Father has a large Volvo (can't remember which but it's a fairly high spec). It's nice inside but it's not up to a 5 series.

Go for the 5.

Ive got a newish V70 which is way nicer inside (quality and design) than my E39 530d.

Maybe isn't just as good to drive (but we've got an M3 for that!) but is more comfortable, better load space and cheaper to run then the BM. Overall, a better car IMO.

The S80 is a dated barge. Well built etc... but you'll lose a fortune if you buy one new.
