Hi,

I have a 1997 528i and the air con doesn't seem to be as efficient as it used to be.

The air con has never been recharged. After 8 years should you expect to recharge the system?

Should be regassed every 2 years or so. (Some say every 12 months). Get the receiver/drier unit replaced at the same time.

...and whilst you're at it, replace the cabin microfilters.

But don't let them disinfect/condition the system. My employer (who fell for the sales ploy) paid for my company BM to have a re-gas and conditioning clean, car came back smelling like a tarts handbag, apparently the disinfectant stuff is apple scented.

Thanks Guys,

Guess I ought to have it regassed.

Is the receiver/drier unit expensive?

About 50 quid-ish. Worth doing.
