I have decided to replace my 5 series estate with a 330d X5 and have been looking at late 03 examples but as usual the main dealers seem to be rather uninterested in taking my money and also a bit confused about the product. Please could one of you knowledgeable people give me an idiots guide to the model range, options, things to look for etc. The local dealer has two examples in stock, one salesman says one of them has “ the uprated engine” and the other says there are no uprated engines. One of the cars has a very high spec but is cheaper because it is an import, is that a problem ?

The range is

X5 3.0i SE or Sport, X5 3.0d SE or Sport, 4.4i SE or Sport and 4.6is which has now been replaced by the 4.8is.

The uprated engine came out with the facelift, the first of which are dec 03 '53' plates, but anything 04 plate onwards will be a facelift.

Due to demand and supply the diesels have been holding there money but they are now starting to come down so don't pay list or close to list for one, the days for that have gone.

Spec wise leather and auto are must haves and sat nav is a bonus but you will pay more as for sunroof's, folding mirrors etc these add no value to the car so if its got them great but don't pay extra for the privalge...

I have 15 X5's in stock and 7 are diesels so drop me a mail if i can help
