86 535i service lights problem

I think I know the answer to this but would be great if someone could confirm it.
Service lights worked fine up till yesterday - was sittng on 4 or 5 greens but whilst parked the alarm came on and then both red, amber and oil inspection lights came on and stayed permanently lit.
The alarm reset ok but even with no keys in the ignition and the car locked the lights stay on.
I think it is something to do with a small battery used to hold memory for the units - can someone confirm this and if so where is it and is it easy to change ?
