S50b32 headers onto my e46 330ci m54...Will they fit
Discussion
First post on here guys....I have a e46 330ci supercharged. Great.....not so..I have blocked cats 🙄 instead of paying bmw 780pound plus Labour to replace one section of the manifold I want to get new manifold...sports cats and straight all way back. If I'm going to spend that money might as well make it count!!
Question is do s50b32 headers fit on my e46??
Anyone do this before....have been told by others it worked but want you guys opinion!!
The s50b32 headers are off an e36 m3 evo.

You may need to check to see if cyl 6 will fit. On RHD M Roadsters and Coupes it is "crushed" to allow for the steering rack. I don't think the E36 M3 is "crushed".
Also cyl hd bolt arrangement is different between S50 and S54. I don't know what arrangement is on your car. (S50 is four in a rectangle, S54 is 3 in a triangle).
Anything can be made to fit with enough fettling

They do, but they foul the block and head casting if you try to bolt them up in standard form.
The M54 also has half the studs the S50 does, so you wont all six branches of the S50 manifolds bolted up fully, probably end up blowing.
Our solution was to laser cut some 10mm steel flanges, which were drilled, tapped and had studs put in where they were missing on the M54 head. Meaning we could then bolt the S50's on with 24 nuts.
The 10mm thick flange also meant they now clear the block, head and steering column much better.

See that's the point mate I don't know what will fit but it's worth bit of research I guess....
It's like finding needle in haystack seems to me. I'm up against it for time and can't find a suitable solution..... I was told svereal things and next to impossible to find a custom exhaust shop to make it work....if it can't bolt directly on they not interested....

@f0xy That's dead clever. I'm impressed.
Now if someone could actually design a proper 6-3-1 system for these engines we might be getting somewhere
We run the S50 manifolds into a collector, then a 2.5" Vband, and then into a single 2.5" system on this car.Now if someone could actually design a proper 6-3-1 system for these engines we might be getting somewhere

I have ran the same setup S50 2-1 collector to 2.5" setup (without these adaptor plates) on my N/A M5x build making 300hp for a while.

Wow that looks amazing.....
I spoke with my exhaust guy and he won't do anything like that....
I'm at a loss here as can't get any headers for the 330 apart from second hand stock....
You don't happen to have a ten mm spare one those mate.....??

Will a 328i M52tu manifold fit? This doesn’t have the cats in the manifold if you’re looking to lose those.
The PCD would be the same but I think they have full 24 studs too? so you would still be short of studs to properly bolt it up maybe...Ya I think will be same issue....blowing due to not enough bolts ect ....never thought this would be so much of an issue. Was dead excited ....blocked cats....Ok then time for new exhaust and more power potentially....didn't think would be so stressful to sort out. But in contact with someone now who reckons they can get me sorted by use of adapter plates so fingers crossed!! Really want to get my car sorted as have temp car at the moment costing me a fortune!!

What do you mean M5X?I have ran the same setup S50 2-1 collector to 2.5" setup (without these adaptor plates) on my N/A M5x build making 300hp for a while.
Will the s50b32 headers bolt up to an alu m52 without fouling anything? I recently purchased a set believing that they would but seem to be finding conflicting information...

Old post, but I am very curious to know whether this steel flanges have passed the test of time. Whether they have leaked or not. The M54 also has half the studs the S50 does, so you wont all six branches of the S50 manifolds bolted up fully, probably end up blowing.

I am running into the same problem and I am not very keen to drill any holes into my engine block.
Many thanks!!
