Opinions on their servicing would be welcome (via email if preferable). They've quoted me a ridculously cheap price for an inspection 2 service on my M Roadster. Am a bit worried that they will be missing important things out. 400 quid cheaper than Damon Hill in Leamington Spa though.....

I've seen quotes of £350 for Insp2 from independents so not soo cheap. BMW charge ~£90/hour and an independent will charge nearer £40 so it's easy to make a big difference on a big service.

I'd be interested in that if they're any good Let me know if you go for it.

Well I turned up at 8.30 this morning, and there was noone there! Waited for 20 mins and thought "sod this!". Got to work late and rang round a few main dealers and got quoted £360 from Godfrey Hall in Cov plus a discount because of the age of the car. Can't believe the price differential between them and Damon Hill!

Then OSC called me asking where I was, so I gave them a bit of a mouthful saying I expected them to be there etc. They then said they had ordered in parts especially, and I said "that's a pity. You should have been there then!". "Oh but the technician just popped out"....

Just an update on this for anyone else going through the palava - Godfrey Hall messed up and it should have been £650. Managed to get them to stick to the £360 though which was some sort of bonus

I almost went to them for my inspection II - E36 M3. I think Rydale came in at approx £550.

That is definately a result!!

Wonder if I can get them to price match?

I think I'll have to give OSC the benefit of the doubt on timing and give them a shot for a quick pre-le mans check up.

Are there ANY other specialist in the Warwickshire area??

Good luck - it certainly didn't look the most impressive place I've seen from the outside. Let me know how it goes, as I'm not averse to using them again in the future. To be totally honest, I just didn't get the confidence on the phone that they even knew what an M car was - hopefully that was just the receptionist.

By the way Rob - I live in Leamington too. Was your car parked by the Sozzled Sausage one night a couple of weeks ago?

Fancy a blat sometime?

not mine - it's been in the garage for a little while having a little big of work done on it *

I'm not far from there though I'm trying to arrange a Z3 Coupe meet at the Boot in Lapworth (I think) in the not too distant future, you're more than welcome to attend - will just be a social (the drive there and back is pretty good though).

* 3 months, ~£12k**, ~1 new engine

** I didn't pay thankfully!

Went over to OSC today and met the guy who works on the cars. Seems like it's a small business (husband and wife) and they don't have a lot of floor space, but the guy was friendly and knowledgeable.

Knew what my car was, that it came with two different engines depending on age, that it was just about 100bhp/litre. I told him about the problems I've had and the fact that I'm running in again and we discussed what oil might be best (apparently he recommends Magnatec for high mileage engines as it's a bit thicker, but as mine is only 25k it should be fine with the SLS (I think?) that he usually uses - need to check that).
We also discussed what work he would be willing to do - basically anything apart from very technical engine modifications such as replacement cams and remapping kind of things. He has some kind of agreement with Miltek so I'll be investigating that more when I come to get a different exhaust, he knows a bit about GruppeM induction kits (but I'm less sure about that, we'll see).

I need an oil change - as part of the running in and that will be £95 (labour, parts, fluids) and will need an Insp 2 in a month or so - £321.46 (labour, parts, fluids).

The guy was very nice and happy to chat about what I was after/heard/thought and seemed to know what the M car was about.

So I'll be using them/him for the oil service for sure and if all goes well I'll be back there for my Insp 2 and possibly some modifications

Cheers for that mate - might give them a go myself again in the future (as long as they don't remember me!)

Aren't you supposed to use Castrol TWS Motorsport 10w60 in M engines?

Something like that.. BMW will recommend a specific brand/oil, but so long as it falls within the spec I don't see the problem with using a different oil.

I'll be supplying my own anyway I expect.

So I've been on the hunt for TWS 10w60 today and Halfrauds don't sell it and the other motor world type place I went to called up Castrol who said it is special order and they won't sell it ??

Interestingly, the handbook says 10w-x for down to -20c; so 10w-40 would be ok, however 15w40 has a higher max temp rating but starts at -15c.

It seems that the 10w-60 would be the better choice, but that depends on it being made available.

EDIT: more research has turned up that a 10w40 is pretty good, Silkolene Pro S 10w40 has been recommended so I'll give that a go.
