I have just had this light come on in red (O).

The book says to change brake pads without dely!

Trouble is i've sold the car and I have to drive to Surrey tomorrow 90 miles then the new owner home 40 miles + 4 miles home from work tonight.

My question is how many miles can you do before you MUST change the pads???

There will be a margin of error. Just get them done in the next week or so I would say.

There is a known fault with the brake pad sensor, is it coming up with "check brake light circuit" on the display? If so, it'll cost about £15.00 for a new sensor, takes about 20 mins to replace.

If you haven't got that then yeah, your brakes need attention, no idea how long they'll last, but my local BMW dealers said the warning light comes on when they have 3mm or less remaining. I could be wrong though.

Grab a small mirror and tortch then inspect the pads should take two minites, the hardest part is probably kneeling down to look though the wheels.
