BMW Aux input screech with Iphone

I have a e91 2009 3 series. I used my iPhone 6S into the aux connector and was great. I have changed to an iPhone 8 and with the adapter cable all I get is a screeching noise!!. I thought it was the apple adaptor so purchased a belkin rockstar, but that is also the same.

It is driving me nuts. Anyone had this and resolved it???
