I'm going to look at a few M5s (sensible car ) over the next week/end. I've got two strong contenders and the choice is making my head spin so some opinions would be much appreicated:

Car 1:
89,000 miles
Le Mans Blue
12 mths BMW warranty, new service, new brakes, new tyres.
Basic spec - NO satnav/tv
£17,995ono

Car 2:
105,000 miles
Black
6 months BMW warranty
Fully loaded.
£16,250 (assuming ono)
No idea when service etc is due.

Car 1 is dearer, few toys, but lower mileage and cheap motoring for a year (servicing, consumables etc)

Car 2 is mega spec' (something I wanted), extendable warranty, but mileagy. Seems good value.

I'll probably do 15-20k miles before I change again. I don't want to lose tons of £££ if possible.

Car 1, 2 or neither????

Thanks
Max

I haven't got the magazine with me but Total BMW do a 'driving the ads' towards the back of the magazine. This had a black M5 with 60k on it, with black leather and titanium trim all the toys literally etc
I think it was pricier about £20k but it looked goeorgeous, if it was my money I would go and have a look at that one, esp if you are only going to keep it for relatively short period, they said it was the perfect spec (I think it was in Gloucestershire somewhere, Tewkesbury Audi dealership?)

Try and find out what the trade are paying for these cars first. From memory a PHer was recently only offered £11/12k for a 90k miler with full FSH, he rightly told them where to jump and kept the car. At the other extreme some of the prices you see asked in the classifieds would lead me to beleive the sellers don't really want to sell the car!

Er, I hope to be taking delivery of one myself next month when the sellers E60 arrives.

Cheers gents!

I take it they may be slightly 'overpriced' then? There doesnt seem to be much around under 17ish and the mileages seem fairly stratospheric.

I'll get total BMW tonight and see - any ideas where else to find M5s at sensible money?

Budget tops out at 20k - with that Id want a recent service, 12 mths bmw warranty, lots of toys and mileage to reflect the market at that £.

You may find a few on the PH classifieds.

www.pistonheads.com/sales/list.asp?p=1&s=273

Are the cars you mentioned in yur first post overpriced? I don't know, but i do know your job is to find a good car and then drill the price down. Items such as no satnav, impending service, illegal tyres! etc are ways of doing this. Although prices may already reflect any issues you spot.

Good luck with your search.

My .02 on this....

I'd definately go for as good a spec as possible. I've had an M5 before and would love another, but I wouldnt be tempted to buy one without SatNav purely for re-sale value.

If you have £20k, I think you'll get a nice one with reasonable miles (say, 80k) and a decent spec for your money, especially if you shop about.

With the E60 starting to appear, I think you wont have to wait long to get a craking buy on the M5's.

Oh, and it almost goes without saying, but make sure the history is good.

Best of luck.
